Quantification of Gravitational Mass Wasting and Controls on Submarine Scarp Morphology Along the Roseau Fault, Lesser Antilles

چکیده

Due to challenges involved in mapping the seafloor at high-resolution (e.g., <2 m), data are lacking understand processes that control evolution of submarine normal fault scarps, which cover large parts global seafloor. Here, we use from autonomous deep-sea vehicles quantify local erosion and deposition associated with a pronounced tectonic surface scarp formed by slip on Roseau (Lesser Antilles). We video imagery, photomosaics, bathymetric (0.1–10 m/pixel) identify active erosional features including channels, steep gullies, small debris cones. compare volumes find under certain depositional conditions, cones effectively record signal mass wasting footwall ratio hanging wall 0.80. eroded estimate earthquake-induced landslide rates for 14–46 m Myr?1. Assuming is mostly coseismic, imply earthquake induced mass-wasting can occur similar various terrestrial lithological settings. present process-based model degradation via retrogressive basement lithology where scarps have gravitational stability threshold height 20–40 long-term average slope 30°–40°. More generally, results presented here may be applicable develop models landscape based

Fluid seepage along the San Clemente Fault scarp: basin-wide impact on barium cycling

Material fluxes associated with fluid expulsion at cold seeps and their contribution to oceanographic budgets have not been accurately constrained. Here we present evidence that the barium released at cold seeps along the San Clemente Fault zone may significantly impact the geochemical budget of barium within the basin. Barium fluxes at seep localities on the fault scarp, measured with benthic ...

Bats of Anguilla, Northern Lesser Antilles

Five species of bats are known in the literature from Anguilla—Monophyllus plethodon, Brachyphylla cavernarum, Artibeus jamaicensis, Natalus stramineus, and Molossus molossus. These records are scattered in the literature as parts of simple reports of the species from the island or included in revisions of taxonomic groups that occur on the island, but the first comprehensive study of bats of A...

Quantification of mass wasting volume associated with the giant landslide Maleh Kabood induced by the 2017 Kermanshah earthquake from InSAR

Radar sensors obtain regular and frequent radar images from which ground motion can be precisely detected using a variety of different techniques. The interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) is utilized to retrieve the spatial characteristics of the largest coseismic landslide Maleh-Kabood, induced by the Ms 7.3 Azgleh earthquake in Kermanshah Province, Iran. The available seven interf...

on translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels

phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...

Passalidae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea) of the Greater and Lesser Antilles.

We present a synthesis of the state of knowledge concerning the species of Passalidae (Coleoptera) of the West Indies and we present a key to the species. The recently described genus Antillanax Boucher renders the subgenus Passalus (Pertinax) Kaup paraphyletic, therefore we place Antillanax in synonymy with Passalus (Pertinax) and we propose a new combination for Passalus (Pertinax) doesburgi ...
